The largest operator of the country Grameenphone has decided to take another leap forward and launch its eSIM. They are planning on introducing that from 7th March 2022.
What is an eSIM exactly?
The letter ‘e’ stands for embedded because the SIM here is embedded in your phone. Therefore, it will allow you to connect to your operator without having to buy a SIM physically. Since you don’t need a physical card you can’t remove it either. It’s rewritable, so if you change your operator you can without having to remove the SIM.
What are the benefits of eSIMs?
- Its easier to switch to a new network with this. You don’t have to worry about purchasing it or have to wait for it to arrive. You can simply do it with a phone call or online.
- This has a feature like those dual SIM phone slots. You can easily have two numbers with this. One for personal and the other one for business calls.
- It saves phone space. This can be an advantage for smartphone manufacturers of the future. They can use the extra space to increase the battery size and do much more.
Can it be installed in every smart phone?
So, here’s the catch most smartphones still don’t have this feature yet. However, the numbers are definitely increasing. According to apple, iPhone XS and iPhone XR now support eSIMs across 24 countries and 45 carries. Therefore, other manufactures will hopefully follow their footsteps in the future.
