Although he made all the strides in his art in Calcutta, he eventually became the ‘Dhakar Bhanu’ to the Bangladeshi audience. Bhanu Bandyopadhyay, the famous comedian, always felt most comfortable to introduce himself as ‘Bangladesh er Pola’.
He was born on 26 August 1920 in Panchgaon, Bikrampur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The real name is Samyamoy Bandyopadhyay. And the nickname was Bhanu. Later he became popularly known as Bhanu Bandyopadhyay. As the comedy recorded on audio cassette became very popular, he became Dhakar Bhanu.
His first commercially successful film was Nirmal Basu’s ‘Sare Chuyattur’. This film is one of the milestones in the history of the Bengali comedy cinema. From then, The Bengali audience used to call him Comedy King.
Today is the 100th birth anniversary of legendary actor. We pay our respects to this great artist on behalf of the Fashion Blitz team.
