As the ICC Women’s World Cup 2021 commenced on the 21st of November in Harare, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh women’s cricket team or more popularly known as Bangladesh Tigresses have managed to cement their position firmly on the pitch by securing a triumphant victory against Pakistan’s cricket team on the opening game of the season.

Ever since Bangladesh Tigresses won against India in the Asia Cup in 2018, they are proving themselves as a worthy opponent on the fields with each progressing match. They always came through with their performance at the pitch. And this triumphant victory against Pakistan on Sunday, 21 November, match made them a possible contender for the top 3.

This achievement was only the result of the joint team effort by Nigar Sultana(Captain), Nahida Akhter, Ritu Moni, Jahanara Alam, Fargana Hoque, Rumana Ahmed, Sharmin Akhter,  Murshida Khatun, and a few more talented and skilled women. Some believe the reason which catapulted this win was the decision to field first after the coin toss.

Giving the chance to bat first to Pakistan gave the Bangladeshi team a lay of the land and a fixed goal to aim at. After the Pakistani team utilized their 50 overs to score an amazing 201 with 3 wickets left, Bangladesh stepped onto the field ready to reach it with their strategic planning. Though it wasn’t easy from the start, they managed to score 202 with 3 wickets and 2 more balls to go, winning the game in 49.5 overs.

The ICC Women’s World Cup 2021 Qualifier match, which is scheduled to be held from 21st of November to 5th of December and participated by 9 teams in total, has been divided into 2 groups. If the Bangladesh team secures 2 more matches in their favor, then there is nothing stopping them from reaching the top 3.
