16 community radio broadcasts simultaneously broadcast a special radio program to raise awareness among the rural population about the coronavirus. This broadcast is the outcome of setting up a plan with the coordination of the National Preparation Plan and the National Coordination Committee. Department of Health, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, sends information to the broadcasting community radio stations. They send the information on strategic preparation and the direction of building a program. So, based on this information, Community Radio is building and broadcasting the Coronavirus Prevention Radio program.
Community radios are broadcasting those programs an average of about 40 hours per day. In those programs, they are informing the rural people about the epidemic of coronavirus. The initiatives of civil society organizations, government, health workers and people are also being told on these programs.
In such programs they are giving information about coronavirus. Providing information to the public the give information such as- why it spreads, how to prevent it, the patient’s symptoms, treatment and prevention. They also provide information through Kathika, Natika, discussion, interview with specialist doctors and information provided by Public Service Enhancement (PSA).
Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) centrally monitored the coronavirus infection situation. The organization collected data from the Government of Bangladesh Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research, UNICEF and the World Health Organization and few other sources. They made the guidelines for making such program comprehensive for Community radio stations.
