The FilmRehana Maryam Noor was at first showcased in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes’ Film Festival on July 7, 2021. After that, the film was highly praised for its unique and thought-provoking storyline. And no doubt that it was deserved. But the celebrations were cut short when the movie fell victim to piracy.

The film follows the story of a medical college teacher who witnessed a serious assault against one of her students. And that too in the hands of her colleague. The storyline of the film chronicles her journey to get justice for the said student.

The obstacles she had to face in this misogynistic society were skillfully portrayed by the talented team of the movie. The star cast members include Azmeri Haque Badhon in the titular role of Rehana. Other supporting characters were played by Afia Zahin, Kazi Sami Hasan, and Tuhin Tajimul, among others.

The movie is suspected to be pirated after the virtual screening at the Melbourne Film Festival on August 14, 2021. As the links began to circulate from 15th August, it was the most plausible assumption. As a result, the follow-up screening on the 17th and 21st was postponed indefinitely.

Badhon, the star of the movie, expressed her shock at the incident and at the same time hinted at proceeding with legal actions against the culprits. Ehsanul Haque Babu, The executive producer of the movie filed a complaint at the detective branch of the police department on the 16th of August.

The detective branch is currently investigating that matter with the utmost cooperation and diligence. They plan to track the IP address of the email which started spreading the link of the movie clips. And thus hope to bring the culprit to justice.

This incident of piracy has completely taken the whole team of “Rehana Maryam Noor” aback. They all worked hard on creating this masterpiece. And for all that work to go in vain just so that some people can watch it for free, seems very disrespectful to the craft.
