Santu Mukhopadhyay, a renowned Bengali veteran actor from Kolkata is no more. Santu Mukhopadhyay left his last breath at his residence on Wednesday evening. He died at a cardiac arrest. At the time of his death, he was 69 years old. He left two daughters – actress Swastika Mukherjee and costume designer Ajopa Mukherjee.

 

Actors like Madhvi Mukherjee, Saumitra Chattopadhyay and many others, including Kaushik Gangopadhyay, mourned his death.

 

The report says the actor was passing a difficult recently for breathing problems and admitted to the hospital. He also went through diabetes problems and cancer treatment. However, he returned home from the hospital for some time.

 

Santu Mukhopadhyay appears in numerous Bengali films since 1975. His few famous films include Sangsar, Simante, Raja, Harmonium, Protima, Devdas, Sesh Bichar, Swami Stree, Malancha, Hemanter Pakhi, Agnipath, Saptasur, etc. He is also a very familiar face on a small screen. He worked in drama series like Isti Kutum, Andarmahal, Jol Nupur and so on.

Many felt that he was the most promising actor in the post-Uttam Kumar era and was a favorite of many people along with Soumitra Chatterjee.  His booming voice, old-world charm, unyielding views, upright, uncompromising ideals all these characteristics took him to a prestigious level.
