The Netflix charts were set on fire by the crazy and unprecedented popularity of the South Korean series “squid Game“. It took less than a week for this non-English show to top the chart in the most-viewed list of the streaming site in multiple countries. The hype around it is still so high that people are already banding around for the second season. But how soon will it be on the cards?

Yes, it is definitely on the cards. The director of the show Hwang Dong-Hyuk confirmed it as well. During a screening event in Los Angeles, he did inform the audience that S02 was being discussed. “There’s been so much pressure, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! I’m in the planning process currently,” he stated, adding that Squid Game’s first season’s Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) will play a pivotal role in the second season.

After this statement, multiple fanmade trailers for the second season started flying around on Youtube creating confusion among the fanbase. But in actuality, these videos are the rearranged clips from the 1st season’s trailer and episodes.

Now let’s get down to business, how soon can we expect a new season of the show? The answer is, probably not for another 2 or 3 years. And here’s why we think that. First of all, Netflix themselves have not announced anything about it. Second, the production works haven’t hit the ground and based on the discussion phase of the 1st season, won’t be starting for a couple of months. And finally, this is an assumption, but the 1st season took 2 years to be released. So, based on that the second season could take time as well.

So, now that we have so much time, let’s all put on our thinking hats to come up with different theories. Where can the storyline of Squid Game take us next? After all the first season left us with so many unanswered questions.
