Like other countries in the world, Bangladesh also celebrated International Friendship Day. Although, Friendship Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries. It is known that Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark cards, first sent cards to everyone on the first Sunday of August 1919. There is another story that tells that in 1935, the U.S. government killed a man. The day was the first Saturday of August. The next day, a friend of this man committed suicide. Since then, the first Sunday of August 1935 was decided as Friends Day in the American Congress to honor the contribution of friends in various areas of life.
There’s another source that added Dr. Ramón Artemio Bracho, the founder of World Friendship Crusade, proposed the day on July 30, 1958. It is an International Civil Organization that campaigns in favor of friendship as a way of fostering a culture of peace.
In 1997, the United Nations took itself to a different position of global bonding. As a result, the official International Friendship Day was declared on July 30, 2011, at the General Assembly. However, India, Bangladesh, and some countries celebrated the day on the first Sunday of August.
