The advancement of the man’s pocket watch into the omnipresent wristwatch had its foundations in the wars of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. World War I was the fundamental time when the wristwatch became both a vital military apparatus and a masculine style embellishment.

But do you know that wristwatches were once only worn by ladies! Yes, Wristwatches were worn only by ladies before the twentieth century — and more for beautification than anything else. 

 

The first wristwatch was made by a Swiss manufacturer in 1868, as indicated by Guinness World Records. But there was no information on record books for men’s wristwatches in particular. And this manufacturer didn’t come up with mass production of watches. These watches were used by a few ladies of upper-class society.
