“As long as I can, I will carry on competing.”- Lionel Messi.

After the amazing victory in Copa Americathe career of Lionel Messi has taken a huge turn. Due to the financial situation of Barca, He had to bid farewell to his football club after 21 years. But where to? That question still lingers.

Barca, Who carries the massive debt of over 1.2 Billion Euros ($1.5 Billion), has failed to keep Lionel Messi in the club for 5 more years. Messi even agreed to take a pay cut of 50%, just to stay longer with the club. But Because of the strict La Liga’s fair play salary restrictions, this was not possible.

“I gave everything for Barcelona from the first day that I arrived right to the last. I never imagined having to say goodbye,” Messi tearfully stated at a press conference on Sunday at the club’s Camp Nou ground.“I have still not come to terms with the reality of leaving this club now – I love this club,” he added.

The 34-year old living legend of football spent 21 years serving as a player from FC Barcelona. After joining the club at the tender age of 13 years, he has accomplished more than enough to be considered one of the most gifted players in the game. He won 35 trophies including 10 league titles. His score of 672 goals is a record among the five European leagues.

Currently, FC PSG(Paris Saint-Germain) is the only club able to afford Messi’s Price tag worth 35 million euros ($41million) annual salary. If he agrees to this offer then he, along with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, Messi’s former club member, will be forming an outstanding attacking force.

In an attempt to stop PSG from signing Messi under their club banner, Barca Lawyer Juan Branco filed a complaint to the European Court of Appeal. He posted an outline of their complaint against PSG on social media. The outlines include,

“PSG’s ratios in terms of ‘Financial Fair Play’ are worse than those of FC Barcelona.

“In 2019-2020, PSG’s salary-to-income ratio was 99%, while Barcelona’s was 54%. Meanwhile, the difference has increased.

“It is inconceivable that the ‘Financial Fair Play’ serves to aggravate the drifts of football-business, the instrumentalization of football by sovereign powers, and the distortion of competitions.”

But PSG is not the only club that has their eyes on this star player. Tottenham Hotspur FC also made an offer to Lionel Messi while he is going through medicals for PSG.

So, what will Messi do? Who knows. As a fan of football and him, All we could do now is wait and watch.
