Songs that made us jump from our seats, songs that took us straight to our childhood, songs that got our wedding fever running, with all of this and much more coke studio Bangla season 1 finally came to its fruitful end with the latest song “Hey Samalo”.
We went on a musical journey with the first season of Coke Studio Bangla. We encountered some beautiful fusions. We got introduced to new genres, new styles, and even new artists along the way. From the very first song to the last we got to see interesting renditions, experiments, and musical supremacy.
However, even with all the highs, there were criticisms that the season faced. A lot of questions were raised in terms of representations, artists, collaborations, and Arnob’s not stepping out of his comfort zone. A very important question that was raised was where are all the musicians who were featured in the “Ekla Cholo” the season’s official teaser.
The last question was answered in the last episode “Hey Samalo” which was a massive collaboration of 15 artists. It included Bappa Mazumder, Samina Chowdhury, Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, Sunidhi Nayak, Rituraj Baidya, Dilshad Nahar Kona, Warda Ashraf, Armeen Musa, Sanzida Mahmood Nandita, Masha Islam, Rubayat Rehman, Jannatul Firdous Akbar, Sinha Hasan, Ripon Kumar Sarkar, and Animes Roy.
The melodious performance of the star-studded episode had beautiful indigenous instrumental tunes perfectly blended into it. You see the choir chanting “Hey Samalo” throughout the song. Apart from the musical composition, it’s the song’s message that also leaves a greater significance. The song talks about the Bengali sacrifices and the suffering of the people at the hands of the oppressors.
The last episode ends with a very powerful message and featured some of the most prominent names in our music industry. With all, its ups and downs the Coke Studio was something fresh in our music scene so the entire team deserves a shoutout for their valiant efforts.
