The buzz around the movie “Rehana Maryam Noor” seems to have no intention of dying down anytime soon. After its first screening at the Cannes Film Festival in July to being yet another victim of movie piracy, this feature film had quite the rollercoaster ride. And still, after months it’s back on the news thanks to the amazing performance put on by its lead actress Azmeri Haque Badhon.

Badhon’s portrayal, of a conflicted medical professor who is fighting for justice for one of her female students, was highly appreciated by viewers as well as the critiques. Her tremendous effort got her nominated for the 14th Asia Pacific Screen Awards in the “Best Actress” category.

Rehana Maryam Noor is 2nd in the list of films directed by the meticulous and highly proficient director Abdullah Mohammad Saad. This was also the 1st feature film that Azmeri Haque Badhon played such a titular character in. And ever since the first screening on the 7th July at the Cannes, she has been showered with compliments and applauds. This nomination was just another cherry on top.

The nomination was announced on Wednesday through their official page. Her other fellow nominees for the same category include Alena YIV for “Asia“, Essie Davis For “The Justice of Bunny King“, Leah Purcell for “The Drover’s Wife the Legend of Molly Johnson“, and Valentina Chyskyyray for “Scarecrow“.

The nomination details for the actress on their website stated her accolades as “Azmeri Haque Badhon is a well-known model and television actress in Bangladesh whose career took off after winning the runner-up prize in a popular beauty pageant. Rehana Maryam Noor is her first major role in a feature film that went on to become the first Bangladeshi film ever to be selected in an Official Competition at Cannes.

Formally trained in dental surgery, Badhon is a single mother, living in Dhaka with her 10-year old daughter. She is an advisor to a non-profit organization that works for youth and has been a consistent vocal about women’s empowerment, gender equality, and mental illness,”

The results of the nomination will be live broadcasted on the 11th of November. And since Azmeri Haque Badon will be representing Bangladesh, everyone in this country will be at the edge of their seats for the announcement. We wish her nothing but the very best for that.
