Referring to the elevated expressway as a ‘new milestone’ in the field of communication, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that this elevated expressway will play a special role in the communication system of Dhaka city and in reducing traffic congestion. Today I inaugurated the part of Dhaka Elevated Expressway PPP project from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Tejgaon. I gave it to you as a gift, she added.

The long-awaited expressway, one of the great infrastructure projects under the current government, will be opened to traffic from tomorrow morning and it will take as little as 10 minutes for a vehicle, travelling at 60 kilometers per hour, to reach Farmgate from Kawla.

This is the first project in the transport sector under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with foreign investment.

The expressway will have tolls that cars must pay to use. Four different sorts of tolls will be collected.

Private vehicles, 16-seater microbuses, and 3-ton minitrucks must pay Tk 80, Tk 320 for medium-sized trucks with up to 6 wheels, and Tk 400 for large trucks with more than 6 wheels.

To utilize the Kawla-Farmgate portion of the expressway, all buses and minibuses with 16 or more seats must pay Tk 160.

Motorcycles, bicycles and three-wheelers will not be allowed to ply the expressway.

This expressway will reduce the time from Airport to Farmgate to 10-12 minutes. Also, it will play an important role in reducing traffic congestion in Dhaka city.

We thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for this development project.
