Building up a customized skincare regimen and carrying it out on a regular basis is not an easy task. Since not everyone can be a dermatologist or an aesthetician, there may be many faux pas we’re making each day in our beauty routine. So, let’s go through some of the most common skincare mistakes that you are probably still doing.

Not Paying Attention to Ingredients: Many toxic chemicals and ingredients go into making some of the skincare products. These elements, instead of improving the skin condition, deteriorate our complexion even further. So unless a product is dermatologically tested and approved try steering clear of them.

Washing or Cleansing Too Often: For oily or acne-prone skin this may seem like the best solution. But you’re far from being right. When you wash too often you strip your skin off of the natural hydrating agents. Your skin then sends a signal to produce more oil to maintain the balance. This will soon clog your pores and induce breakouts.

Using Warm Water: It may be soothing and feel like it cleans off the dirt and oil better. But like the above point, it strips away too much of the natural oil from your skin.

Not Using Serum: Serums are lightweight and are created to serve a specific requirement of the skin. There are serums for breakouts, hyperpigmentation, anti-aging, or any other skin problem you may experience. Niacinamide, AHA BHA, Retinol, And many more.

Not Using Moisturizer: Even if you have oily skin, you should always keep your skin hydrated. For oily or acne-prone skin try a light-weight, non-comedogenic, and non-scented moisturizer.

Not Using Sunscreen: Even if you have a desk job, the blue light from the screens of your laptop or phone can do just as damage to your skin as the UV rays from the sun. So, Don’t forget to apply and reapply sunscreen in the morning and after every 3 hours.

Not Removing or Properly Removing Makeup Before Bed: Leaving your makeup on for the night can cause breakouts, blackheads, and clogged pores. So, always double cleanse before bed. Start with an oil-based product to break down the makeup and then a water-based one to finish it off.

Not Paying Extra Care To Your Undereyes: The skin under your eyes is much thinner and sensitive compared to any part of your face. And they tend to get dehydrated faster. So, use a separate lightweight cream for your eyes.

Having The Same skincare Routine For Day and Night: In the morning your skin needs a strong defense to tackle the sun, pollution, and dust. But at night it needs to breathe and rejuvenate itself. So, don’t forget to protect the skin with sunscreen during the day and pamper it with exfoliation and face masks at night.

Not Attending To the Neck: One of the biggest yet common mistakes in a skincare routine is not taking the product down the neck. Your necks’ skin needs just as attention and care as your face, unless you want to see crows’ feet early on.
