3rd of November may seem like just another date on your calendar, But for avid fans of Bangla cinema, it’s a day to celebrate the birthday of one of the most popular and beloved actresses, singer, director, editor, and who knows what other career she’d want to pursue in the future. If after this you’re thinking of Moushumi, then you are correct.

Moushumi started her journey into the entertainment industry after winning the “Ananda Bichitra Photo Beauty” Contest in the early ’90s. And immediately after that, she received offers after offers for Numerous Ads and feature films. In 1993 she finally made her debut with the film Keyamat Theke Keyamat which was an official remake of the Hindi film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.

With this, her fame and accolades began to spread across Dhaliwood. In her almost Three Decades-long career, she has been affiliated with over 150 projects. Some as an actress, some as a director, and some as an activist.

She won a “Bangladesh National Film Awards” as the best actress for Meghla Akash in 2001 and for Devdas in 2013. She also made a huge impact through other movies like Molla Barir Bou, Golapi Ekhon Bilatey, Projapoti, and Ek Cup Cha, which won her four Meril Prothom Alo Awards.

She made her directorial debut in 2003 with the film Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti opposite Ferdous Ahmed. She runs the production house, Kopotakhsma Cholochitra and is associated with Projapoti Cholochitra.

In 2018, she embarked on a new journey when she decided to become the editor of an online news portal yesnewsbd.com and again in 2021, the editor of the weekly magazine “Vision 2021”.

Apart from all her media and film-related ventures, She also prides herself to be an activist. She is the head of her own charity foundation, “Moushumi Welfare Foundation”. In September 2013, Moushimi was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund.
