Kamrun Nahar Koly, the first shooter from Bangladesh to make it to the finals of the women’s 10m Air Rifle competition at the ISSF World Cup, had to settle for eighth place after yesterday’s shootout in Jakarta. No Bangladeshi shooter, male or female, has ever advanced to this stage of a World Cup.

Koly, who previously set a record by shooting 629.2 out of 654 in the qualification round of the same competition at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo in October 2022, finished sixth out of 53 shooters with a qualifying round score of 228.1.

However, the 22-year-old from Narayangaj was eliminated from the third round in the eight-shooter final round. Eszter Meszaros from Hungary and Aneta Stankiewicz from Poland qualified for the gold-medal match, where Meszaros triumphed.

Shaira Arefin, Nafisa Tabassum, and Sajida Haque, Koly’s teammates, placed 15th, 16th, and 31st in the qualifying round of the same competition with scores of 626.5, 626.5, and 623, respectively.
