This academy awards could have been about many things. It could have been an Oscar about the movie CODA. A beautiful drama focusing on the deaf community. Or could have been about raising awareness about the ongoing Ukraine crisis. However, all people has been talking about is Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on stage of the Oscars.

The comedian Chris Rock made a joke about will Smith’s wife Jada on stage that made him take such actions. Jada Smith suffers from a condition called Alopecia which is the reason behind her hair loss since 2018. Chris joked about her shaved head look which made Will storm from his seat to the stage. However, while Chris was making the joke Will did laugh at it, it was right after seeing his wife’s reaction that made him do what he did.

Later after this particular incident took place Will Smith appeared on stage again to receive his award as best actor for his role in King Richard. His acceptance speech wasn’t only heartfelt it also shocked the crowd in many ways. He started off with his gratitude towards everyone. He shares his personality intimate story of from his childhood when he felt helpless seeing his mother in a abusive relationship. Then he shifts that he wants to carry the love and kindness and apologized for his earlier behavior saying,

I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love and care and concern. I want to apologise to the academy. I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not – I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award

The Academy did condemn this action and wants to further investigate the matter. They later mentioned that Will Smith was asked to leave Oscars after the slap took place and he didn’t.
