No matter what I say relationships are tricky business. Each relationship is different and comes with its unique challenges. However, we can still harness healthy habits in order to make them work a bit better. So, what are they? Keep on reading to find out!

Don’t compare

As I just mentioned every relationship is different. If you keep comparing your relationship with the ones around you might find yourself being disappointed easily. One of the reasons is that when these comparisons happen you don’t see the full picture. You only see the positives of other couples.

Healthy communication

No matter how difficult things are always try to communicate your feelings. Calmly talking to your partner about what you are going through can be very helpful. You might even get surprised by the response you get.

Hear what the other person is saying

In relationships we face miscommunication. That’s mostly because we often miss out on hearing what the other person is saying. This usually happens because we are too fixated on our own problems. So, whether it’s a fight or just a conversation, try to empathize with your partner’s feelings.

Keep in touch with reality

There are times we move far away from reality when it comes to relationships. It’s normal to have certain expectations however, having unrealistic expectations from your partner can damage your relationship. For instance, you see your friend’s husband getting her flowers every day and then you expect that from your partner as well. This will just put too much pressure on the other person. Instead celebrate them for the things they already do for you.

Be accepting towards fights

Once you accept that fights are bound to happen your life will get a lot better. Fighting all the time is never healthy but in some cases, they become hard to avoid. People have different ideologies, views and believes so fights are natural. Focus less on why the fights are happening and more on better conflict resolution.

Always have quality time each other

Having one on one quality time with your partner is very healthy in relationships. It really gives you the opportunity to know each other better. And a great way to reflect on each other and resolve issues if you are facing any.

Don’t forget to appreciate each other

Little things matter the most in relationships. Thanking and appreciating your partner in the littlest things can go a long way. After some time has passed we don’t acknowledge the same things the same way. We end up taking the things we do for each other for granted. So, thank them for always getting you coffee or noticing your needs etc.

These sound like very simple details and habits but you will go a long way if you keep on following them. These will really help you build a more healthy relationship with your partner.
