Priyanka Chopra has had her hands full this entire year, and there are still a few months left till 2022. From being on tour accompanying her beloved husband western pop star Nick Jonas to being signed to appear in many new upcoming projects, It is fair to say that she has kept herself busy. However, in her plethora of shows and films, she is bound to miss the marks at least once or twice, right?

That is exactly what happened this time, as netizens bombarded criticisms towards everyone publicly affiliated with the upcoming show “The Activist” for setting up the act of making people aware of the Struggle to get basic human rights as a competition favouring capitalism.

Witnessing the immense backlash, Priyanka Chopra issued an apologetic statement on the Instagram feed on the 17th of September.

The show was announced last week as a competition that pits 6 political activists, who are involved in matters relating to health, education and environment, against one another. The success of each cause will be determined by online engagement, social matrix and finally the judgement from the three non-activist hosts Priyanka Chopra, Musician Usher and Actress Julian Hough.

This announcement was enough to appal people. This was seen as the organizers’ trivial attempt at capitalizing over peoples sense of community. They are basically telling people to pick and choose which of the six causes are worth investing in. So if a cause does not get the same level of online support, is it supposed to be just sidelined like that?

Another tweeter user posted taunting the whole concept of the show bt=y tweeting,

English presenter Jameela Jamil Tweeted raising the discussion of spending the money the organizers are putting in to hire the star cast could also be put into each of the causes instead of paying a fraction of it to one cause. Don’t you think that made a valid case?

And these weren’t even the tip of the iceberg. Many people compared the show to hunger games and a black mirror episode where it promotes the survival of the most favoured.

Seeing all those backlashes prompted the organizers’ US TV network CBS and makers Live Nation and Global Citizen to issue a joint statement acknowledging that the show format “distracts” from work these incredible activists do in their communities every day.

Now the creators have changed their initial approach to the subject matter and instead of making it a competition, they decided to make it into a one-part documentary that highlights each of the activists’ journey in their individual causes.

Currently, The actress is all set to star in Farhan Akhtar’s “Jee Le Zaraa” along with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt and next Hollywood venture in “The Matrix Resurrections“. We wish her the best for her future projects.
