Darjeeling, the ‘Queen of the hills’ of India, is ready to welcome tourists again from July 1. Businesses have already opened in this attractive tourist destination after being under lockdown for three months due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Darjeeling is famous for its tea garden and a popular tourist destination. But the lockdown has hit the sector hard. For such a situation, many have turned away from business. So hotels are opening there again to boost the economy.
The Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) acts as the autonomous administrative body of the hills of Darjeeling. Recently they formed a committee with various organizations including local political parties, hotel owners, police and district administration. At their last meeting, they decided to reopen the hotel for tourism to revive the economy.
The new order advises hotel owners to strictly follow the standard operating protocol as per the guidelines of the central government.
However tourists must show a fitness certificate before entering this hill state. It has come in the news that before reaching the city of Darjeeling, every tourist has to undergo a screening test at two separate points. In addition, all hotels have been asked to be ready with screening equipment at the entrance.
