We create and consume a variety of food products daily, some of which might contain chocolate. Apart from the zen flavor they add to different food, dark chocolates also have many health benefits. Great For The Skin: The minimum amount of UVB rays required to cause redness in the skin 24 hours after exposure is called a minimal erythemal dose (MED). A study with 30 people showed that the MED almost doubled after consuming dark chocolate rich in flavanols for 3months. So, it’s safe to say that they protect against sun damage.

Improves Brain Function: A research study shows that consuming high flavanol cocoa can improve the blood flow to the brain and in time the cognitive ability of the brain. Mild cognitive impairment and verbal fluency can be improved in adults with moderate consumption.

Helps In Weight Loss: You must be thinking, “Eat chocolates to lose weight? are you kidding me?”. Well, we are not. According to Neuroscientist Will Clower, Ph.D., eating a bit of dark chocolate before or after meals sends a signal to the brain, you’re full. Moreover, chocolate behaves like a prebiotic that promotes the production of “good” bacteria in the gut which improves metabolism.

Improves Blood Flow: The flavanol-rich chocolates encourage arteries to produce more nitric oxide(NO). This NO sends a signal to the arteries to lower the resistance to blood flow. Thus controlling blood pressure. Although it’s most effective on people with a little high blood pressure. But not on people with very high pressure.

Dark chocolate may have many health benefits, however only when they are consumed in moderation. Excess of anything can be dangerous to health.
